9 Interesting Stops While Visiting Vientiane

The Patuxay –Triumph Arch of Vientiane:Most of tourists coming to the capital of Laos spend time on visiting Patuxay, which is considered as the symbol of this city. Patuxay (or Patuxai) is compared as the triumphal arch of the city by the local people. The building was built to honor the soldiers in the war against the French.




 Pha That Luang:Pha That Luang is one of the most important religious buildings of Laos. The best time to visit Pha That Luang is sunset, when the rays in the end of the day shine onto the top of the towers with bright yellow color.

Buddha Garden: Buddha Garden is away 27km in distance from the center of Vientiane to the Southeast. There are more than 200 statues of Buddhist and Hindu characters which are made of concrete, feature with the giant Buddha statue with 40m in length.

Talat Sao Market:is located at the eastern corner of the intersection of the Lane Xangstreet and the Vieng Street, the main area in the capital of Vientiane. This marketopens from 7:00 am to 16:00 pm. This is a place of gathering goods which carry the special identity of Laos, so you can easily buy a few items as gifts for your relatives and friends.

The Haw PhraKaew Temple:Located on the Setthathirath Street, the Haw PhraKaew temple was firstly built in 1565. This is not only a place to worship Buddha but also a museum to display many religious artworks of Laos. Visiting the temple, you will be lost in "the world of arts" by the sculptures, carvings and rare artifacts which were inlaid with gold, silver and sparkling emeralds.

The Night Market of Vientiane: the market is located in the campus of the Anouvong Chao Park with over 300m in length. It has a side bordering with the Rue PangkhamStreet and the other side bordering with the Mekong River. Goods sold in the market are mainly clothes, shoes, bags, food and handicraft items.






The WatSisaket Temple:the temple is located on the Sethathirath Street, the intersection with the Lane Xang Avenue. The Wat Si Saket temple is kept in an intact way as it was built in 1818 by Chao Anou king under the Siamese Buddhist architecture. WatSisaketis impressive with the corridor decorated with more than 2000 images of Buddha, made of bronze, precious woods, ceramics, silver and gold. The total number of Buddha in the temple is up to 6,840 of small and big statues.
WatOngTeuMahawihan: Also located on the SetthathilathStreet, the WatOngTeuMahawihan temple is attractive with the largest bronze Buddha statue in Vientiane. In addition, in the campus of the temple, there is the Buddhist school of Sangha, where monks from throughout Laos regularly come here to learn about Buddhism.
The Wat Si Muang temple: Located in the intersection between theSetthathilath street and theSamsenthai street, Wat Si Muang is the temple that represents the best combination of Buddhist faith and the primitive beliefs of Laos. If coming to Vientiane, you can take part in the ceremony of tying threadaround the wrist to wish for luck, according to the traditional customs of Laos.
