- Cheong FattTze Mansion. Built from the 1800s, owned by a Chinese businessman,
this old house always makes tourists curious due to the strange blue hue.
Penang is the ideal country to explore the religious
buildings. St. George's Cathedral, the church has the Europe's oldest
architecture in Southeast Asia, was built by the
British in the 1880 s during the colonial period. Also, we cannot fail to
mention the KekLok Si temple, the complex of the largest Buddhist temples in
Southeast Asia. On holidays, the temple is lit with thousands of red lanterns.
Adventure with Nature Penang
A great place to explore nature of Penang is Penang National
Park. Located in the 2,562 hectare campus, itis
also green home to nearly 50 species of birds with the diverse ecosystem along
with the green tropical rain forest.
Penang Hill is situated not too far from the center of
George Town, so you can catch a bus or taxi to get
there. Over 800 meters high, the hilltop is the ideal place to enjoy panoramic
green island. Take the tram from the foot of the hill to reach the top, the air
suddenly switch to the fresh temperate climates. Walking down the hill among
the trees is a pleasant experience.
The land of festivals
In Penang in January, you may be lucky to witness the
brilliant beauty of the lanterns at KekLok Si Temple during the festival of the
Chinese New Year.
In the summer, the island will be bustling in the festive atmosphere
of the typical dragon boat racing which is characterized with water river culture
in Southeast Asia. There are also a series of other festivals like Festival
Chap Goh Meh, Festival George Town, Penang music festival...
When night falls, tourists also have more choices to play at
the bar, the bustling dining area with
specialties. Chulia Street is the food area with the average price that is
loved by backpackers. And if loving seafood, go to Gurney Drive food area.
Penang is also known as the culinary capital of Malaysia. In
Penang, do not miss the famous asamlaksa noodle dish cooked
from sour broth with tasty mackerel. You should also try Hokkienmee, egg noodle dish eaten with chicken, pork, shrimp and
sweet broth cooked from bone. Char Kwayteow, fried noodle with shrimp, eggs,
oysters, price, chili, chives is also worth trying.
You need an average of 3 days to visit Penang. The first
day, you walk the old George Town, visit the street art area and architectures.
At night, you can go to the food area, entertainment area to relax.
The second day, you can enjoy the sunrise on the beach.
Then, from the center of George Town, visit the KekLok Si Temple. From here to
Penang Hill is pretty close. The third day, you can leisurely explore the
remaining attractions like museums, entertainment area...
