Hua Shan, one of the five most beautiful mountains of China, has a path (paved with
planks) halfway up the sky which is considered the most dangerous road in the
world.
The
most dangerous road in the world
The floor is only about 30 cm wide, looking up is the high wall, looking down is the abyss which does not
see the bottom, has no balcony outside; there is only the chain
inside for tourists to cling and go step by step. Wanting to go, tourist must face to the ridge, their hands cling to the
chain, and the body is hooked with the cable above to avoid being slipped.
This path is not for the faint people, or those who are scared of heights or have heart disease. However, due to the road on the opposite side is a stone house of Taoism and beautiful scenery such as Chan Yan, Wolong Tung ... so many people decide not to abandon their purpose to admire firsthand and discover them when traveling to Hua Shan.
It is still attractive because
this is the foundation of Taoism. Hua Shan is the mecca of Chuan-chen sect, is
a shrine of West Mountain Hua Shan Great Soldier who was adored by people. Hua
Shan is also mentioned a lot in the sword play stories of
authors such as Jin Yong, Liang Yusheng. Jing Jong has turned Hua Shan into a
powerful place in the martial world when he described here is the mountain for
the masters of Kung Fu seeking to compete their talent, gaining the throne
" The winner of the martial world ".
This path paved planks was from 700 years ago. According to legend of Ha Chi Tran, the
leader of Hua Shan sect of Yuan dynasty after standing off the world outside,
went here and practiced to become the god. He had to punch into the escarpment and then hung
the wood up to create a way.
Hua Shan Road is famous for danger. From ancient times until now, there have been thousands of people died here, but those who prefer
adventure still come here to conquer, while many poets created many valuable works which were handed in later generations.
Today, this plank path is not the only path to
conquer Western Mountain, but just is the exploring path for the adventurous
people. This plank path was divided into three passages: passage from Heaven
Gate (South of Tiananmen) to Cave of Yuan Dynasty 20m long, has 60 cm wide aisle, inside is the path punching into the cliff, outside is the path paved planks, which is easy to go. Two later
passages are completely joined by three narrow planks which are only 30 cm wide are linked together by the clincher; visitors can only
go step by step.
To warn tourists, the local people from
ancient times carved into the cliffs the inscription “Diamond by the verge”.
After the liberation (1949), Huayin city government has repeatedly repaired, reinforced
the road, such as replacing the rock
piles with iron poles, replacing thin planks with thick planks and periodically
renewing to ensure the safety for tourists.
